Located just 5 kilometers south of Essaouira, Diabat is a small, peaceful and enchanting Moroccan village nestled between sand dunes and Atlantic winds. This village, with its authentic and laid-back charm, was a hotspot for the hippie movement in the 1960s and 1970s, attracting free spirits in search of inspiration and mysticism. During this era, Morocco, and particularly the Essaouira region, became a popular destination for rock icons. Legendary bands like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin (featuring Robert Plant and Jimmy Page in 1975), and artists like Cat Stevens left their mark here, captivated by its bohemian atmosphere and timeless landscapes.

Diabat is most famous for the legend surrounding Jimi Hendrix. In 1969, the prodigious guitarist reportedly made a brief stopover in Essaouira, staying in a luxury hotel, according to his biographer, Caesar Glebbeek.

Today, Diabat retains a vibrant, laid-back hippie aura, with the Jimi Hendrix Café, a sanctuary adorned with colorful portraits. Between its rolling dunes and its past as a refuge for rebellious souls, this captivating village invites visitors to immerse themselves in a bygone era, where music and freedom reigned supreme.
